Gas and Electric Furnace Services
Furnaces are heating systems that use forced air. They use some fuel to create heat and then distribute it through your home’s ductwork. A gas furnace is fast and efficient. Natural gas is widely available, which makes it a cost-effective way to heat your home. When they are properly maintained, they won’t produce too much dust or other airborne irritants.
An electric furnace also has benefits:
- Energy-efficient
- Eco-friendly
- Long-lasting
- More comfortable air
Electric furnaces take longer to heat up but offer even heating throughout your home. They do not produce carbon monoxide and don’t dry out your air as much as a gas furnace does. Solar panels can power it, making it an even more attractive and energy-efficient option.
Regardless of what type of furnace you have, it can develop problems that need repairing. One of the most common problems is a malfunctioning thermostat. Miscalibrated thermostats can cause the furnace’s fan to run non-stop, making your furnace work harder and causing unnecessary wear and tear on your heating system. Dirty or clogged filters will also reduce your furnace’s efficiency and potentially damage the limit switch.
A heat exchanger separates the heat from the air, which helps your furnace run safely. If it gets cracked, it will cause your furnace to shut off. A high-pitched squealing sound indicates problems with the blower belt. The blower belt is responsible for making the fan work. This symptom is typically associated with when you don’t feel the heat from your vents.
A scraping sound means worn blower ball bearings that need replacing. Popping or pinging noises can indicate problems with your ductwork. Rattling sounds can mean loose panels. If your furnace turns on and off too often, it could mean dirty air filters, low airflow, or improper thermostat settings.
Moldy smells emanating from your furnace can be from trapped allergens and debris. If you smell rotten eggs, this means a gas leak. Shut off the gas and call us immediately to fix it.
There are some common gas furnace issues, such as the pilot light may flicker or turn yellow. If this happens, call us immediately, as this could indicate a build-up of carbon monoxide or some other issue.
Electric furnaces can develop issues with the sequencer and electrical ignition. A broken sequencer may trip the circuit breaker or fail to activate all heating elements. Similarly, the electrical ignition may break down and require repair or replacement.
Gas furnaces can last up to 20 years, and electric ones can last up to 30 years with proper maintenance. Regular maintenance checks help them run efficiently for longer. We’ll inspect, lubricate, clean filters, and ensure everything works correctly.
